Codon Usage in S. cerevisiae Figure 1 displays the relative frequencies of each of the 64 codons. There is a 25-fold difference in abundance between the most and least abundant amino-encoding codons. GAA, encoding glutamate, occurs most frequently, comprising 4.6% of the 2,851,170 codons in the sequences. CGG is the least abundant, comprising only .18% of the codons. The three trinucleotides directing translation stop are least abundant among the codons. Nearly half of the 6161 stop codons in the sequences are TAA. |
